Notes

It's almost time to start a new year of ballet classes!  New students are welcome; contact me if you're interested (see link above).

Class Guidelines:

  1. Girls should wear a leotard (with or without a skirt), tights and ballet slippers. Their hair should be pulled back away from their face. All girls will need pink ballet slippers for the recital.  They can be any color for class, but if you need to buy a new pair, make it pink! Little girls are welcome to wear tutus and ballet dresses if they wish!
  2. Parents should wait in the foyer during class. There will be 2 observation days in which parents may watch the classes (see schedule).
  3. Students should also wait in the foyer until it's time for their class to begin. Once the students from the previous class have come out, the next girls are welcome to enter.
  4. Girls who are using the church bathroom to change should neatly pile their belongings out of the way (not in the stalls). Please double check that you have all your things before you leave!
  5. Girls in Ballet 1 & 2 need to have an adult available for them during class.
  6. Girls must get on and off the stage using the stairs (no jumping!). There is a water fountain and bathroom for their use off the side of the stage. Otherwise, they may not be behind the stage for safety reasons (large equipment is often stored back there).
  7. Respect for each other and the teacher during class will be encouraged and expected!

Thank you!

Liane's

                                 School of Ballet

Background on Liane

I started taking ballet lessons at the age of 9, in Sydney Australia where I learned the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus.  I also learned character dancing, which is a classical form of folk dancing.  I did many performances, competitions, and exams.  My family moved to the USA when I was 16, and I took classes at the Philadelphia Conservatory of Dance, in the Russian Vaganova method.  No more competitions or exams, just performances!  I started teaching ballet classes casually as a teenager. My husband and I moved to Rochester in 1996.  I began teaching ballet again about 8 years ago out of my livingroom.  Shortly after that, I was able to use the Oak Arbor Church Social Hall, and my classes developed from there! I have 3 children, and am happy to be a mom/ballet teacher.

Ballet Classes

I love teaching ballet classes!  My main goal is to make it a delightful experience for the girls, and to keep the environment comfortable and non-competitive.  I want to give them a basic knowledge of ballet technique, so they can benefit from the grace, coordination, strength, and creativity of classical dance.  I incorporate creative movement into my classes, especially with the younger students.  I focus more on technique with the older girls, and give them the opportunity to choreograph parts of their recital dances.

Recital

Each student will perfom 2 dances for the spring recital, which is also held in the Oak Arbor Social Hall.  This gives us something to work towards and look forward to!  We often have a story behind the dance, so that the girls can act and use their imaginations while dancing.  We've also performed many dances with an international theme.  The recital is open, and you may invite any guests to attend.  The show is about half an hour long with refreshments afterwards.  Our costumes are a combination of recycled, store-bought, and home made!  Many mothers are willing to sew and assemble costumes, which keeps it affordable and results in some creative and unique costumes!  The 2011 recital will be on Friday April 15th at 7 PM.

Photography

All photos on this website were taken by Pam Steen of Steen Photography. She is our recital photographer, and takes posed portraits of the girls as well as shots of the performance Click here to visit the Steen Photography website.
