Welcome to the Oak Arbor Moms & Tots webpage! I'm Liane, the volunteer coordinator for this program. You are welcome to come and join us anytime!

You can contact me with any questions. I'm happy to hear from you.

Scroll down to read about upcoming activities, and our story of the month.

We're on summer break! We had our last regularly scheduled event on June 4th, and will start up again after Labor Day.

There will be occasional summer activities, which will be posted on this web page. If you would like to receive emails about upcoming events, click here to send me your email address.

"Lori's Stories"

Each month we'll be featuring a short story about life from a mother's perspective. They are beautifully written with humor and spiritual insight by the wife of a pastor, and a mother of 9 children, named Lori Odhner.

Lori says "I have loved being present for the ordinary, the dramatic and the miraculous moments that are so interwoven to mothering."

Click on the following link to read more about the author, and to read this month's story entitled "Perspective."

We're currently on summer break, and will resume our weekly get-togethers after Labor Day. Please read on to learn more about this group. We'd love to have you join us in the Fall!

The Oak Arbor Moms & Tots group invites all mothers and their children (infants through kindergarten age) to join us. Our goals are to offer support, encouragement, and friendship as we parent our young children, and to have fun and be creative together. We meet in a beautiful large room with windows looking out to the woods, and with lots of space for the children to run around and play. We have plenty of toys and books for the kids, as well as juice and snacks. And we have fresh-brewed coffee for the moms. We also offer occasional fun activities for both the moms and kids. Come and join us anytime!

When: Wednesday mornings 9:30-11:00, during the school year.

Where: The Social Hall at the Oak Arbor Church & School.  Click here for a map.

Occasionally we'll meet somewhere else for an activity.

Field Trip to Wolcott Mill Farm, May 2008

Format: Most of the time we’ll have “playtime drop in”. Come anytime between 9:30-11am, and visit with the other moms while your tot enjoys some social playtime. Toys, books, activities and snacks will be available for the children, and coffee for the moms. Once a month, we’ll have an Oak Arbor School librarian join us for story time with the children.

Our field trip to the Oakland Township Firehouse, February 2008

Activities: Once or twice a month we have an activity, either as a whole group or just the moms. Often we provide a babysitting service to care for the children so that the moms can enjoy an activity on their own, such as crafts, cooking, pampering sessions, or presenatations on topics of interest. See the schedule below. You will be asked to RSVP ahead of time for some of the activities, so that we can have enough supplies for everyone. To RSVP for an activity, just click on the "RSVP" link on the schedule or in the "News & Events" section, and send an email to Liane (the coordinator).

Flower Arranging, February 2008

Fees: There is no charge to attend Moms & Tots. Some of the activities involve a small cost, which will posted if applicable. We ask for a $5 donation per child for use of the babysitting service.

Book Center: Our book center is stocked with parenting books and magazines that are available for you to borrow each week.

Snow Days: Moms and Tots will be cancelled when Rochester Public Schools calls a snow day.

All cancelations or schedule changes will be posted on this webpage.

What some of our moms have said about the program:

"It is nice to have a place to go to for the kids to run around and get out of the house, especially in the winters. It is nice to participate in organized field trips with others we know. Everyone is pleasant and welcoming."

"I like Moms & Tots because it's a great group of ladies (and tots) that do fun stuff all the time. If you're looking to find a comfortable place to bring your "tot" for some social time this is a great group of moms and there's plenty of room for running and playing. Come join us on Wednesday mornings!"

"It provides socialization for my two very active boys while also providing some for myself. The
location is terrific and I have met some really great Moms."

"Being a stay-at-home mom, I really need the adult company sometimes. My son is an only child and I want him to have other children to play with. I can relax knowing that he is safe. Every time I tell him that we are going to Moms & Tots, it makes him happy."

Lily and her sons visited her native Kenya last August. They went to a local school and an orphanage, and delivered crayons and coloring books collected by Moms & Tots.

Thank you everyone for your contributions!

2007-2008 Schedule: Wednesday mornings, 9:30-11am (unless otherwise noted).

Your RSVP is not necessary, unless requested. You may RSVP up to 2 weeks before an event. Thank you!

If you would like to receive emails with more information on upcoming activities, click here to send your email address to Liane. Your address will not be shared with anyone.
