Moms & Kids

We are sorry to say, there will not be a Moms and Kids program this school year. We hope to continue this program in the future. Thank you, Oak Arbor Church.

Welcome! If you are a mom with kids any age from infancy through middle school, then Oak Arbor Moms & Kids is for you!

Come join in the fun with this friendly, casual, supportive, and inspiring group. Come with or without kids and make some new friends in the neighborhood. And hey, it's free.

When: Wednesday mornings 9:30-11:00 during the school year. See details below.

Where: The Social Hall at the Oak Arbor Church & School, a beautiful large room with windows looking out on the woods and lots of space for children to run around and play. Click here for a map.

How it works

• Casual, friendly, undemanding gathering of moms for fresh-brewed coffee and conversation.  No affiliation with the Oak Arbor Church is expected - Moms & Kids is for area moms who live close enough to attend.
• Visit and also discuss aspects of our wonderful adventure of parenting
• Playtime with toys, books, snacks and juice offered for tots.  If you have no tots with you, just come yourself and enjoy some time with other moms.  If you do have a tot, this is a good format for your little one to learn to interact socially, as well as a way to meet other kids in the area with whom to set up playdates.
• Weekly meetings on Wednesdays, 9:30-11 in the Oak Arbor Church Social Hall
• Discuss very brief articles full of personal experiences with a pearl of mothering wisdom included
• Anyone with tots attending can always take time out to take care of their needs or just spend the time playing quietly with their little one
• No fee, only one location, same time each week, a mix of sociable and useful time for mothers

Format: Come anytime between 9:30-11:00, we are always happy to see you! We share relaxed discussions from 10:00-10:30 or so, relating to a very brief, sensible parenting article. Feel free to contact Kim de Chazal (click here to send her an email) if you want to know more about these readings.  There's no prep required, you can just quick read it after you arrive.

The format is very casual. If you arrive in the middle, you just join whatever we are doing at the time. We plan to visit starting at 9:30. At about 10:00, we'll begin the discussion with three leading questions and then we'll let it go from there. We will have about 30 minutes to devote to discussion. The discussion can be as short or as long as we like based on interest but it will conclude around 10:45 in order for those moms with tots to have time for toy clean-up. During the discussion time, we expect that various peripheral needs of the kids will arise and we support each and every mom to take a time out and attend to her child(ren). You are also welcome to quietly play with your child if that is what you think is best. The only thing we ask is that if you would like to visit with a particular mom, you try to keep it to before or after the discussion time. We are simply wanting ideas to be bounced around so that we can all go home with food for thought and maybe an idea or two to ponder as we go about our demanding and rewarding job of parenting.

Fees: There is no charge to attend Moms & Kids.

"What Did You Do When...?": Moms & Kids is a particularly good forum for finding out how other moms have handled whatever parenting situation you are facing, from the early sleep-deprived days to the challenges of older kids. All moms need other moms to talk to, and Moms & Kids is a great place for moms to form those important relationships.

Snow Days: Moms & Kids will be cancelled when Rochester Public Schools calls a snow day. For daily information on school closings, visit www.clickondetroit.com/closings.
