A Bit of History

The Oak Arbor School is a Christian elementary school originally established in Troy, MI in 1978. After several moves, we settled in our current location in September of 2000, allowing us sufficient space to start the Pre-K/K program in 2002 and the Middle School program (grades 7-8) in 2004. Our current student enrollment is 42, but our facility can accommodate about twice that many. We are excited about our outreach efforts to serve more students!

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Oak Arbor School is to provide a distinctive spiritual, moral and academic environment in which students actively prepare for a useful and fulfilling life on earth and in heaven.

We do this by:

  • Feeding each child's mind - by providing tools and knowledge for each student’s cognitive and intellectual growth through mastery of core academic subjects, critical thinking skills and their applications. Our academic program harmonizes the educational philosophy and methodology of the New Church school system with best practices and standards of curriculum development at National and State levels.
  • Touching each child's heart - by nurturing each student’s love of discovering and understanding what is true, and by fostering healthy relationships (1) with the one loving God who is the Lord Jesus Christ (2) with His Word and (3) with one another.
  • Preparing each child for life - by equipping students with a strong basis in spiritual and moral principles and helping them practice what they learn in a wide variety of educational activities and settings.

We balance these three essentials of our purpose by providing (1) a distinctive Christian foundation, (2) a strong academic program and (3) a positive learning environment (see below).

We offer:

Christian Foundation

Academic Achievement

Preparing students for lifelong learning

  • Mastery of core academics, critical thinking skills and their practical applications

Positive Learning Environment

Encouraging each student’s love of learning

  • An atmosphere that is safe, affirmative, and treasures childhood innocence
  • Multi-sensory approach to teaching and learning
  • Commitment to help students build healthy relationships
  • Field trips & service learning activities
