This Year’s School Theme – Strengths of Character

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5)
Healthy character development is a key element of education at Oak Arbor School. We want our students to love the Lord with their heart, their soul and their strength just as the ancient Israelites were encouraged to do so in their development as a nation. And just as we’re told that Jesus as a child "grew strong in spirit", we also want our students to be actively working on their character strengths every day in various ways.
There are so many strengths of character, or virtues – how can we narrow the list? Here are six categories that we are using to provide a framework:
    Respect
    Trustworthiness
    Responsibility
    Fairness
    Caring
    Citizenship

Throughout the year, this will be the topic of our Friday whole-school morning worship services. And we will discuss ways to make this theme practical and applicable throughout the school day.

Graduation and School Closing

Wednesday, June 10 @ 7 PM

Everyone welcome!

Volunteer Appreciation at School Closing/Graduation – June 10, 7 PM

Thank you, THANK YOU! - to everyone who has volunteered in any way this school year! The teachers and students benefit from your participation in the life of the school.

This year, we invite all our volunteers to our school closing and graduation ceremony where we will have a general celebration of the year! If you have volunteered in the school in any capacity, large or small, please come to the Social Hall Wednesday, June 10 at 7 PM for an inspirational and entertaining program including music, graduate speeches, some pomp and a lot of affirmation.

Eighth Grade Graduation

Each year at our school closing event we give special recognition to our eighth grade graduates. We take an opportunity to honor them for completing our full program of education offered here. And we also hear a few of their thoughts on their educational experience thus far. Please come and support them Wednesday, June 10 at 7 PM for their commencement ceremony and the whole school closing event.

Kindergarten Performance

On Sunday, June 7, at 12 noon, the kindergarten class will perform two very short plays from the book “Waiting For Spring Stories”. They will finish by singing “It Is A Happy Morning”. The show should take about 10 minutes. I hope you can come and enjoy these performances. ~ Elise Gladish

Fascinating Field Trip - Voyageur Canoe Program @ Stoney Creek Metro Park

On Tuesday, May 26 Mr. Brock's 5th and 6th grade students went on a field trip to Stoney Creek Metro Park to take part in their "Voyageur Canoe" program, in which the students learned about the life of the French Voyageurs in the Great Lakes area. This is a part of our Michigan History unit. As a part of the experience they went out onto the lake in a replica of a Voyageur canoe.
