Journey Programs offer you an opportunity to focus on your own personal and spiritual growth in a safe and welcoming environment. You will have a chance to share your ideas and hear others’ reflections on the core topics explored. The Journey program is a great opportunity for personal growth and to build friendships and connections with people in the Rochester area and beyond.

People who have participated in past Journey programs say:

  • “The Journey has helped me make God a part of my everyday life—not just
    at church on Sunday.”

  • “I appreciated the structure to this program. It helped me personally in my marriage and in building friendships.”

  • “This program has helped me feel closer to my spouse and given us a chance to connect on a deeper level. It has been helpful, reminding me of what is important in life and to be grateful for the things I have.”

  • “It is so helpful being in a group— connecting with people and feeling like you are encouraging each other
    on the journey of life.”

  • “The program helped me to feel more part of the community and more integrated.”

The Oak Arbor Church is offering its sixth annual Journey Spiritual Growth Campaign.  This year's program is called, “Shift.”  The program explores the Jacob story of the Old Testament

What is “Shift?”

Whether it’s relationship issues, financial concerns, bad habits, we all struggle. Although painful at times, struggle often signifies the beginning of change. And fortunately, we all have the God-given power to shift our focus, our perspective and our priorities, which can lead to exciting life changes. But why do this alone?

“Shift” is a seven week spiritual growth program in which participants come together to learn about each other, about God, and about how to make shifts in their lives. The program draws on the Jacob story from the Old Testament, and includes live worship services, small group meetings, and daily reflections on Scripture. Here is your chance to offer your struggles before the Lord, and watch them turn to blessings. Come join us!

Weekly Topics

This seven week program explores Biblical answers to a new topic each week:
A Shift of Awareness: Notice the conflicts
A Shift of Perspective: Remember the Lord is here, now
A Shift of Focus: Keep in mind who you want to be
A Shift of Expectations: Have patience with the process
A Shift of Motivation: Recognize when it’s time to make a change
A Shift of Confidence: Hold on through the wrestling
A Shift of Heart: Show your love

Program Focus

We believe that the Bible is God speaking to us through literal stories, parables and a deeper spiritual meaning.  The literal stories are metaphors for our spiritual development. In this program, we will explore the story of Jacob from the Old Testament and look at how it speaks to us about shifting our perspective.

About Small Groups or Discussion Groups

The groups are a key component of this campaign. The groups will provide a chance to get to know others, talk about the concepts of the program and the Sunday message, and get support in applying these tools to your life. There will be a variety of groups to choose from that will meet at different times and locations to suit your needs.

Why Participate?

  • Find tools to strengthen your spiritual walk.
  • Meet new people and connect with a spiritual community.
  • Deepen your connection with God and other people, and from that, find strength to live a more satisfying and peaceful life.

  • When does is happen?

The kick-off event for the Shift journey program is Saturday, Feb 4, 2012. The program will end on Sunday, March 18.

    How much does it cost?

The enrollment fee is $20 per person ($40 per couple).  Cost should not be a determinant of participation. Please speak to any of the team members if this is an issue for you (or someone you know) to pay the full amount.

    How do I get involved?

If you would like to know how to get involved, please contact one of our core team members. We are fully committed to providing a fulfilling experience for you.

Rachel Mahrle is the small group coordinator.   If you wish to discuss specifics about the small groups, click on her name above to send her an e-mail.
